Technical performance – Cleaner oceans
From 2026, we’re introducing Seawastex® recycled nylon across our range of outerwear — turning discarded marine waste into premium jackets and drysuits. So what you wear on your next adventure can contribute to a global shift in the sustainability of garment manufacture.
Recycled material
What is Seawastex®?
Seawastex® yarns are made from discarded fishing nets and marine nylon waste — materials that would otherwise pollute our oceans for decades. Working with coastal governments, fisheries, specialist recyclers and manufacturers, these nets are collected, dismantled, cleaned and repurposed into high-performance fabric.
100% recycled outerwear fabric
The face fabric of all Seawastex® garments are made entirely from recovered marine nylon waste.
GRS certified
Meets the Global Recycled Standard for verified traceability and responsible sourcing.
Why it matters
Cleaner oceans
Every year, around 640,000 tonnes of fishing and aquaculture gear is abandoned at sea — contributing to the 12.7 million tonnes of marine debris that enters our oceans annually. Ghost nets drift for decades, entangling wildlife and breaking down into microplastics. Seawastex® turns that waste into something with a purpose – adventure.
It starts with return schemes that pay local fishing communities a fair income for retrieving ghost gear and used nets — creating a consistent, traceable supply of raw material. That traceability is what makes it possible to reliably produce a recycled fabric of the highest quality.
Advanced depolymerisation converts the recovered nylon into caprolactam — a high-grade monomer that’s spun back into nylon yarn. This replaces petrochemical raw materials, reducing the energy needed to make yarn and cutting the fabric’s carbon footprint significantly. The result: a supply chain that works for people, planet and paddlers alike.
640K
Tonnes of lost gear
Fishing gear abandoned at sea every year worldwide, threatening marine ecosystems.
15%
Energy saved
Manufacturing Seawastex® requires 15% less energy than producing virgin nylon from scratch.
49%
Carbon reduction
Recycled nylon cuts carbon emissions by up to 49% compared to virgin nylon production.
Performance
Recycled, but never second best
Independent testing confirms that Seawastex® matches — and often exceeds — the durability, tensile strength and abrasion resistance of virgin nylon. Our Seawastex® XP fabrics deliver the same waterproofness and breathability as our other premium XP fabrics, with a handle that’s just as supple, or better.
These fabrics are also PFAS free – made without intentionally added PFAS, the forever chemicals we’re actively removing from our waterproof membranes and DWR finishes.
Whether you’re out on the water in challenging conditions or pushing your gear to its limits, Seawastex® delivers the confidence you expect from your equipment.
